Done and Done!
I'm done with my NaNovel! I finished today after an epic 10-hour writing session, and validated and got my pretty purple bar on the NaNo site. I promised myself I wouldn't validate until I finished the damned thing, and I'm glad I did.
The novel clocked in at about 85,000 words. The good news is that I'm not nearly as emotionally and physically fucked up at this point as I was last year after finishing Counterpoise. The bad news is that, and I think these two things are probably related, The Protector is not nearly as good as Counterpoise. It is not even as good as Tender Faith. It is really quite bad. I might even go so far as to say that it is awful, and without a doubt the worst thing I have ever written.
Or, I might just say it needs a lot of revision. I spent two hours just spellchecking the thing today after I'd finished it, and it's going to need at least a handful of scenes added into the middle and a lot of consistancy work, and that's before I even tackle the quality of the prose and things like character development, pacing, etc etc.
Still, it feels good to have transformed this mass of slimy eggs into a helpless, wriggling, bloated nymph without limbs or sight. I think. Or something. Please don't ask me what just happened.
Also, if I have been ignoring you, it's because I was on vacation, actual physical vacation, and then writing a novel, which was not at all like vacation. At. All.

HP: GOF
Just saw HP:GOF for the second time. It is so good. Very affecting. A few notes:
1. Nagini! Her little girlyhiss! I <3 her. She was for you, Dave.
2. Ze grindylows are SO CUTE. Such ikkle tentacles and fangses! <3 They were for me.
3. Ralph Fiennes as Voldemort = BEST THING EVER.
4. Ending so hard to watch, in a really good way. The movie is as dark as it should be.
5. Why didn't I get to see Snape's dark mark?! I await the day with longing.
6. Damn you, Lucius, my slippery friend, for being so pretty; I keep wanting to love you even though I know it is so, so wrong. Also pls to stop molesting Harry w/ cane, tks.

Personal best!
I HIT 50,000!
I just crossed 50,000 words on my NaNovel (currently titled "The Protector: Or, A Most Curious Tale of Poison and Power"), and I'm still going strong in the middle of a chapter. I'm just past halfway in my book; I'm guessing it'll be about 90K when it's all done.
I have no idea if it's any good or not yet, but at least I think I'm starting to get the hang of the characters. The world/atmosphere is going to need a LOT of help, and I have plans to put in hilarious footnotes from the two different "translaters" that frame the novel, which I have totally neglected to date.
I'm really impatient to finish it so I can reread it and start editing it. I honestly haven't reread any of it yet except for about a page that I turned into an excerpt on my NaNo profile.

Yay!
Happy Birthday, Purin-chan! \(^_^)/
If any of you have ever used those DIY package mailer machines at the post office, you will know that they print out great big postage/zipcode labels. Purin, the envelope I sent you for your birthday was...not as big as my spatial reasoning had led me to believe before I printed the sticker. I ended up having to get a little creative with the application of said sticker. Hopefully it gets to you on Wed anyway. Eat lots of cake! XD

So sad! The wonderful person who offered the pleasing and informative auto-updating php/mySQL NaNoWriMoProMe that used to be featured in my sidebar can no longer afford to have it up, due to massive bandwidth costs. Good news for NaNoWriMo, bad news for NNWMPM guy and me. I suppose I will have to manually create progress meters if I wish to have such things from now on.
