I finally bought a microphone, and tomorrow I'm going to download a recording program and give this whole podcasting/audiobook creation thing a try. I miss doing story time. ^_^ I'll probably record one of my own books first--Counterpoise, I'm thinking. It's the least turgid and most vernacular of my books. I could start with one of my short stories, but they're all very...textual, even the ones I like. I'll let you know how it goes. Paradise Lost might also be on the agenda, because I would do a totally awesome reading of Paradise Lost. From experience, I know just reading the thing aloud straight through takes about 13-14 hours. Pleeeenty of verse for me to practice on.... Sunday, March 12, 2006Finally done with NaNo 2005
OMG I finally finished my NaNo 2005 novel. I was feeling bad about the fact that it had taken me this long to get it to the complete, mostly consistent, rough draft-ish point that my other NaNovels had been after one month. And then I realized: 42 chapters 220 pages 113,100 words LONGEST BOOK EVAR. eeeeeeeeee~ ok imma go roll around on the floor now. Saturday, March 04, 2006Movie Review: Ultraviolet
Originally I went to see the movie "Ultraviolet" because I figured it would probably be so bad that it would wrap back around. This was not the case. I am afraid I actually enjoyed it on a sincere, visceral, non-ironic level. This is because this movie is GORGEOUS. Yes, it's non-stop fight scenes with basically no plot or dialogue; but unlike the Matrix sequels or the abomination that was Underworld, Kurt Wimmer, the director, makes it a triump of aesthetics and kinetics. Those of you who are well educated will know Mr. Wimmer from "Equilibrium." There were some BRILLIANT gunkata moments in this movie, and though it lacked the politics and plot and character of Equilibrium, it made up for it with the ease, naturalness, and fluidity of the fights--he didn't feel any need to explain Violet's skill or really waste time on the physics and geometry involved; she was superhuman and free to throw down in massively beautiful ways. Also, for those of you who are into that sort of thing, Milla Jovovich is so hot in this movie that her body literally catches a leetle bit on fire in one scene. She was awesome, and really sold this movie as feminist vampire wronged-mother Equilibrium. All of you should go indulge in this guilty pleasure, except for Purin, who is FORBIDDEN to watch the first 5-10 minutes, after which you should be ok. I'm just saying. You'll know when. I have to admit that I have always been attracted to Alexander Hamilton. He is the reason the $10 is my favorite bill. That strong chin! Those elegantly arched eyebrows! He is way more scrumpable than any US President ever. Also: dueling. I am happy to report that the newly redesigned $10 bill makes him look like even more of a hottie. That high collar, that careful cravat, and most wonderfully, that little smile; as though Mr. Hamilton had a sly secret to share with me, and me alone! His colorization is also a manly and well-coordinated red and yellow; none of this peach and teal nonsense we suffered through with the $20. new!Alexander Hamilton, get your smart, sexy self into my pocket. <3 |
