Thursday, June 01, 2006A Few Victories in the War on Food
You may or may not be aware that I hate basically everything about eating except the actual act of consuming food, which I love. I hate preparing food. I hate cooking food. I hate cleaning food up. I hate saving food. I hate having to throw food out. This leads me to spend a lot of time in restaurants, where everything but the eating is pretty much taken care of. Recently I have discovered two wondrous new things that make the business of food slightly less apalling. The first is the peanut butter and banana sandwhich, which is entirely davesque's fault. I never ate them as kids, but suddenly I find them compelling, easy, and full of nutrition. I have also improved them for the 21st century by adding shoestring potatoes into the mix, thereby solving the problems of sickly-sweetness and overly mush texture in one fell swoop. The PB&B&SP sandwich is deeeelicious. But the PB&B&SP pales in comparison to the Bertolli Frozen Complete Skillet Meal for Two, which is an entire dinner in a bag but has the unique advantage of tasting even better than pasta with meat and vegetables that I can prepare for myself fresh. Seriously, where have these advanced freezing techniques come from?! I tried the "Chicken Florentine & Farfalle" and the texture of the chicken, noodles, and spinach all tasted exactly like fresh. As did the sauce, which is the most amazing part; it comes in little beveled, frozen bricks that melt into pure buttery deliciousness. I am going to go back and buy all their other flavors. Man, I feel like I should be getting paid for a product review like that, but my heart overfloweth with the magnanimity of deliciousness! <3 |
